Often items are made according to the “cradle-to-grave” model whereby they are designed for single use. This creates a continuous flow of rubbish to the landfill when items are not recycled at the end of their shelf life. This scenario is entirely true for organic waste.
At Upcycling Ventures we “upcycle” your waste.
We review your process conditions in the processing plant to minimize waste generation and to optimize productivity. When waste generation is unavoidable, we create value out of them.
Our services include advanced composting, tailored fertilizer, material and mass balance, anaerobic digestion, advanced planting materials and others. We exist to support the “cradle-to-cradle” business model where we put great emphasis on a circular economy.
“Upcycle today for a sustainable tomorrow”
I am a senior lecturer in the Chemical Engineering Department of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia. Apart from teaching, I am heavily involved in R&D activities in the area of bioconversion of waste. I believe that waste generation is inevitable and will grow in tandem with human population.
It has taken humankind thousands of years to reach this point of modern and comfortable living. Unfortunately, this lifestyle comes with a trade-off that is often being overlooked- Significant quantities of waste.
I work closely with companies on various consultancy and commercialization projects focussing mainly on upcycling of waste. When upcycling is not possible, we work our way into recycling- prior to treatment for safe and responsible disposal.
My teaching subjects are Thermodynamics, Environmental Chemical Engineering, Environmental Design for Atmospheric Emissions, Workplace Safety in Industry, Materials Science and Engineering, Energy and Plant Utilities and Health Safety and Environment.
Outside my academic world, I am a passionate family man that likes to live a nomadic life (at times), I keep a small permaculture at home, a big fan of carbon-neutral living, I travel off beaten tracks, I love sports, I follow world news, I enjoy scaling mountain tops, eat less, read more, smile and laugh beyond measure
